Regenerative Medicine

Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences, and Animal Science

Ciara Murphy

Class of 2027

Education: BS in Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly; MS in Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly

Biography:

Ciara's interest in regenerative medicine began during a nanotechnology internship, where she learned about carrier systems that deliver therapeutics in the body and became curious about how treatments can be engineered to work at the cellular level. Her biomedical engineering education deepened that interest, drawing her to the intersection of mechanical fundamentals and mechanistic biology. She hopes to focus on cellular immunotherapies and other cell-based treatments, with the goal of expanding access for patients with complex and rare diseases, such as autoimmune conditions and aggressive cancers. Now working in drug discovery and cellular disease modeling at Rubedo Life Sciences, she plans to pursue a career developing next-generation therapies, growing as both a scientist and an engineer while helping close gaps in their access, safety, and effectiveness.

Ciara is currently completing her internship at Rubedo Life Sciences as part of the in vitro pharmacology team.
