Cell Therapy Laboratory

  

Cal Poly's Frost Center for Research and Innovation is home to our Cell Therapy Laboratory, a state-of-the art research and teaching facility dedicated to teaching mammalian cell culture techniques through hands-on instruction. 

As part of the BMED 5511 Advanced Cell Culture Techniques curriculum, students learn fundamental skills like aseptic technique and cell propagation, in addition to a variety of procedures commonly used in cell and gene therapy research. Students design and conduct experiments utilizing both primary and immortalized cell lines, gaining experience with transfection, magnetic activated cell sorting (MACS), flow cytometry, immunofluorescence imaging, among others. 

Over the years, the Regenerative Medicine program has received generous donations from our industry partners. From cell lines to specialized equipment, these donations allow students to gain hands-on experience with workflows highly utilized by leaders in the Regenerative Medicine field. The Cell Therapy Lab and coursework helps prepare students for not only their internship, but also for their career beyond graduation.
