Education: Blended BS + MS Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly

Biography

Eric is a Biomedical Engineering student graduating from Cal Poly in 2019. He chose the Regenerative Medicine program because its interdisciplinary nature will allow him to integrate his knowledge of engineering with his interest in biology. Eric wants to continue gaining lab experience and knowledge of stem cell therapies to become a well-rounded scientist. He envisions a career in cell and genetic therapeutics, ideally treating neurological disorders and diseases.  After completion of the program, Eric plans to pursue a PhD or work in the biotechnology industry.

Eric worked as an R&D engineering intern at ViaCyte, under the supervision of Janahan Arulmoli, Karim Dudum, and Tessa Gunnin. He worked on a variety of projects relating to design verification testing, manufacturing scale-out, and improving cell function/viability in the clinic. These areas are essential to ensure safety, efficacy, and efficiency of the company’s combination product to treat type 1 diabetes.
