Isaac Joshua
Class of 2023
Education: BS in Biology at Notre Dame De Namur; MS in Biological Sciences at Cal Poly
Biography:
Isaac is inspired by scientists in the field of Regenerative Medicine, whose discoveries have advanced our understanding of biology to innovate future healthcare solutions. His interest in stem cell research is derived from experience with studying the role of cellular senescence in cancer, fibrosis and age-related diseases. Isaac is determined to apply his research in biomedical science and engineering toward improving the lives of patients with unmet medical needs. During his career, Isaac aspires to lead study design in product research and development to facilitate the translation of novel ideas from proof of concept to clinical success.
Internship Summary:
For his internship, Isaac joined the lab of Dr. Kelly A. Frazer at the UC San Diego School of Medicine in the Department(s) of Pediatrics and Biomedical Informatics. In Dr. Frazer’s laboratory, he is analyzing a multi-omics dataset generated from iPSC-derived cardiac-progenitor cells to characterize the effect of Interferon Gamma on cardiac gene regulation and chromatin accessibility. His project aims to profile the transcriptome and epigenome of this perturbed model system as a resource for studying molecular mechanisms of cardiac inflammation.
