Eric Dubofsky
Class of 2021
Education: Blended BS + MS Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly
Biography
Eric sees regenerative medicine as a way to make science fiction into reality. The ability to understand and control how the body repairs itself would provide opportunities to ameliorate currently untreatable conditions and improve everyone’s quality of life. Eric is interested in 3D bioprinting and scaffolding for organ regeneration, particularly the idea of using artificial organs for transplants or ex vivo testing. After this program, Eric would like to pursue a career in the tissue engineering industry.
Eric completed his internship with ViaCyte’s Process Development team under Emily Benz and Alan Agulnick. His project involved developing a closed system for processing stem cell-derived aggregates during bioreactor culture. Eric assisted in designing and executing experiments to determine the optimal processing conditions to maximize aggregate recovery and was also involved with integrating this system into the current aggregate culturing process. Ultimately, this work helped improve overall process efficiency and enable further scale-up.
