Education: Blended BS and MS in Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly

 

Biography

Erin found regenerative medicine fascinating because of its potential to solve a multitude of problems while also accounting for the complexity of living systems. She wanted to focus on using stem cells as a treatment for retinal and neurological diseases. After completing the CIRM program she wanted to work in the regenerative medicine industry before considering a PhD program. Her ultimate goal was to work in research and development for a stem cell therapy company or collaborate with companies from an academic setting.

She was interning at ViaCyte under Chad Green in the Device Engineering department. The project focused on the development of the encapsulation device for ViaCyte's combination product, a treatment for Type 1 Diabetes. Her project involved development of an assay to test cell containment  and providing support for the Device Engineering and Manufacturing team.

After graduating, Erin went on to work for Automated Inspection Systems. She is now a systems engineer at Roche Molecular Systems.
