Education: Blended BS and MS in Biomedical Engineering at Cal Poly

 

Biography

Josh was interested in stem cell research because of the potential it has for new creating new therapies to regenerate native tissue.  He was most interested in the applications of stem cell research in developing therapies for cardiovascular diseases. After he completed the program he planned on pursuing an MD/PhD so he could attempt to develop regenerative therapies with stem cells and translate them from the bench to the bedside.

He was working in Neil Chi's lab at UCSD in the division of cardiovascular medicine.  The lab studies the specification, patterning, and differentiation of cardiovascular progenitor cells. He was working on a project to identify the role of the extracellular matrix on theses processes.  The lab was most interested in translating findings for therapies for cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease and heart failure.

After graduating, Josh became a doctoral student at Arizona State University's Biomedical Engineering program.
