Biography

The human body had always intrigued Matthew. He enjoyed doing medical research and admired the rapid progression in this field as well as its diverse applications and potential benefits to society. He was open to many areas in the field, but of particular interest was using induced pluripotent stem cells for drug screening, personalized heart and liver failure therapies, and tissue engineering. He planned on finding a job in industry or academia that reflected his interests and kept him learning and enjoying his days.

His internship was taking place at Viacyte, Inc. with the Product Engineering team under the management of Dr. Chad Green and Vincent So. As Viacyte was currently initiating a phase I/II clinical trial to assess its therapy for type I diabetes, his efforts directly supported preparation for that trial and development of second generation products in support of future clinical trials. Mattew's project was focused on the design, development and manufacturing of the Encaptra Drug Delivery System and VC-01 combination product.

After graduating, Matt obtained a position as a research associate at Illumina.
